Main governance tools in force at local level: Regional plan for air quality protection of Liguria Region: 2006 Port master plan (Genoa Port Autority): 2000 - currently under revision The development of "Genoa Port towards 2020", focuses on five main themes: • Expanding the harbor entrance in order to host last generation ships (maneuvering ray of 300 meters). • Increase the linear length of the piers in TEUs Terminal, with a capacity of 12 meters deep. • Expanding Terminal (in terms of TEUs spaces); • Improving the infrastructural interconnection (new railway line over the Apennines) • Overcoming and mitigate possible/future risk situations within the relationship City-Port 4
APICE Project Thanks to APICE the city of Genoa has now available a numerical model, assessed versus a 1-year monitoring campaign, for air quality analysis and prediction PM2.5 - Summer period PM2.5 - Winter period 21 mg/m3 13 mg/m3 10 mg/m3 4 mg/m3 5
Participative approach to identify APICE case studies 2 1 3 • Stakeholders involved in APICE: • Genoa Port Authority • Liguria Region and ARPA Liguria • Municipality of Genoa • Harbor Office • Muvita
Risk activities analysis – working table with the stakeholders Suggested actions: - electrification of VTE and Ferry terminals - mitigation of shipyards area
Scenario: reference year 2020 Percentage variations of PM2.5 concentrations simulated in the monitoring sites (min and max mitigation effect) Higher mitigation effect of action n.2 (up to 80% of PM2.5 reduction) near the VTE terminal not observed in monitoring sites analysed 70% 30% 8
Communication activities Genoa Port Center: a natural connection point between the port and the city 9
Communication activities A section of the Genoa Port Center is devoted to the “Green Port Policy”: - innovative solutions to reduce emissions of pollutants, emission of climate-altering gases, noise pollution. - exploitation of renewable energy (in agreement with the Port Authority Environmental Energy Plan). 10
