FIspace Foundation - Enabling Collaboration between Supermarkets, Farmers, Retailers, and Logistics

The FIspace Foundation aims to establish a neutral platform that connects supermarkets, farmers, retailers, logistics companies, and other stakeholders in the food supply chain. The foundation will provide open specifications and governance for the FIspace platform, ensuring compatibility and fostering new ecosystems. By promoting collaboration and standardization, the foundation aims to support the growth and evolution of FIspace.

  5. Objective of Foundation: Guarantee that the instances are: • Not dominated by any single organisation and is affordable and robust – but also available commercially, meaning that companies that exploit FIspace must earn a rate of return • Structured and standardised • Available for new ecosystems • Instances that are compatible by a dispute resolution process • FIspace continually grow and evolve This can be done by: • Ownership (of open specification [move to standards] and governance) • In an open source attitude (like Linux or W3C) • As independent organisation that organises FIspace stakeholders

  6. Activities of the Foundation • Manages the components and standards in Fispace communication • Grant the FIspace trademark/product (FIspace certification) • Markets the principles of FIspace to establish new ecosystems and get new parties on board • Resolves disputes between parties using FIspace standards and components • Agrees on the expansion of the FIspacefunctionalities and includes new standards and components in new releases

  12. Why a Foundation?

  13. Balance in the Foundation • For the commercial exploitation we have to balance interests in the current consortium. • Business companies like K+N and Kverneland (see “10 commandments” in extra deliverable 500.7.4): • Should not be killed in product portfolio development in 1 IT company or 1 consortium • Want not to be locked in by one product but want one neutral platform on standards and competition in services like hosting • IT companies like ATOSor LimeTri have showed some interest to commercially exploit different instances on their own

  14. How to set up the Foundation • It will be based in The Netherlands • Should be done in the next months. • Draft version of statutes are already available. • Document do be signed to transfer the IPRs to the Foundation is also available. Software is developed as Open Source.
