Joel Iwataki is an American sound engineer. He has won one Primetime Emmy Award. He has worked on more than 150 films. Joel won outstanding sound mixing for a variety series or special in 2002. In a career mixing over 150 scores high points have been the scores of Elliot Goldenthal including “Alien3”, “Batman Forever”, “Titus”, “Final Fantasy”
And the Oscar-winning score for “Frida”; John Corigliano’s Oscar-winning score for “The Red Violin”; and more recently “Star Trek Into Darkness”, “Dawn of the Planet of The Apes”, “Jurassic World”, “Star Wars: Rogue One” and “Incredibles 2” scored by Michael Giacchino.
Joel Iwataki helps with Sound Design, Location Audio Mixing, Sound Editing, Music Recording and Mixing, Film Sound Mixing.
He served on the board of the Pacific Composers Forum in Los Angeles from 1987-1990 and composed music for 2 musicals: “Canton Jazz Club”, produced at East West Players in Los Angeles in 1991 and “Beijing Spring” produced at East West Players in 1996 and again in a revival in 2006.
While writing big band arrangements for Vegas acts Joel Iwataki also composed music for Disney Educational Films and a PBS documentary.
On hearing Joel Iwataki's scores other composers would ask him to help mix their projects. After meeting the great film composer Elliot Goldenthal, Joel made film score mixing his career.
Joel Iwataki always had an interest in music and he knew he had a burning passion since the beginning.
