Economic Importance of the Offshore Oil Industry Total offshore oil and gas activities (Newfoundland) will generate $55 billion dollars in capital and operating expenditures over the next 20 years. The offshore oil and gas sector has a substantial impact on other sectors of the economy (aka spin-off jobs/businesses) including metal fabrication, construction, ship technologies, communication equipment, specialized machinery and professional services.
