  2. Objectives • Estimate expenses associated with moving and setting up a household • Identify responsibilities of a tenant and landlord • Set up a budget for maintaining a household that includes rent, utilities, and living expenses

  3. Moving in Moving costs can include: • Moving truck • Hiring movers • 1st month rent • Last month rent • Cleaning deposit • Security deposit • Utilities deposit

  4. Once you are in…. • Bedroom #1 • Bedroom #2 (if necessary) • Living room • Dining room • Kitchen • Bathroom • Other (garage, den, yard)

  5. Places to look for furnishings • Second hand • Friends/Parents • Garage sales • Big Box stores (IKEA, Target, etc) • Creativity! (cinder blocks, plywood, etc.) You’ve gotta start somewhere!!

  6. Activity #1 Your room: Think about your bedroom right now. What do you have in it? Research the furnishings on the internet and write down how much these items cost. Place the total at the bottom of the page. We will discuss, then turn-in.

  7. Activity #2 • Find a partner • Choose a room from the page • Use the internet to see what it would cost to set up your room. • Did you forget anything? Small things? (soap dish, foot rug, bedding, etc.) 5. Put both names on your paper and submit when complete.
