  2. Readme These photographs were taken by Alan Rodgers and Angella Streluk in August 2004. They have been made into this resource to form part of the QCA Island Home unit. Other resources and teacher’s notes can be found in the Naace Primary Focus on Geography pack. The map is not intended for use in navigating the island. Certain licence has been taken with the positioning of some images, although the vast majority are fairly accurately placed.   5. Bed and breakfast. What needs to be done for the guests?

  6. Whose car is that? What needs doing here? Don’t forget water samples have to be sent to be tested.

  7. Who might set out to work from Cornaig Bay?

  8. This is the builder’s truck. What sort of work might he do on Coll?

  9. The cottage has a caravan for holiday makers. What has to be done to get the caravan ready each week? When do holiday makers visit?

  11. What are the tools in this truck used for? Who by?

  12. Somebody keeps the grass tidy here? Are there any other jobs which need doing?

  13. It can be very windy in the winter. If these cables are strong they will not blow down. What will happen if they do?

  14. Have you stayed in a hotel? What jobs need doing?

  15. The golf club does not have a club house. Not many people need to work here. What needs doing?

  16. What are these special roofs made from? What needs doing to them?

  17. The Project Trust volunteers stay here to train. Who works here?

  18. What do we call the worker who looks after the sheep? He or she might also have other animals.

  19. Who do you pay to take you to a different part of the island?

  20. Somebody has cut down the crop and taken it to sell. Who?

  21. What do we call the person who flies the helicopter? Who is it bringing to the island?

  22. This is Island Granny’s cottage. Who lived on the island and wrote books about it? What was her job?

  23. Several people help in a church. What jobs do they do?

  24. Somebody has parked his van at the telephone exchange. What job might he be doing?

  25. The doctor’s surgery is in Arinagour. Name some of the jobs people do here. There are lots.

  26. What jobs do the shopkeepers do? They don’t just take your money and give you change.

  27. If there is a fire on Coll who will rush to it?

  28. The fuel station is closed. Who will be here when it is open?

  29. The First Port of Coll is a restaurant. What jobs have to be done here?

  30. The Post Office and Gift Shop are next to each other. Who works here? What do they do?

  31. This is the primary school. Who works in your school? Do you think it is the same on Coll?

  32. The public toilets need to be clean. Somebody will have the job of cleaning them.

  33. When the bottle bank is full what will happen?

  34. What is this little boat for? Who works in it?

  35. Somebody works in these houses but does not always get paid. Who might it be?

  36. The Coastguard helps to keep people on the coast and at sea safe.

  37. These people visit the island once a week for their work. Who are they? Why do we need them?

  38. You can buy tickets for the ferry here. Who will sell them?

  39. Pottery made on the island can be bought here. There are a few people who make beautiful things on the island.

  40. Some people work on the ferry. There are also people who have to help tie the ferry up? What else might they need to do?
