Types of regulation. And DRM graphs. Major regulation types. Adding/subtracting (vs. fine/coarse). Subtracting turns, reversal, then adding turns Pos 1- subtracting max, then subtracting less (less turns, higher current) Neutral=max current, reversal, adding more turns getting lower current.

Types of switches Duty on main and transition contacts for resistance-type LTCs IEEE C57.131-1995 Standard Requirements for Load Tap Changers
Standard defines contacts of an OLTC • 3.1 arcing switch: A switching device used in conjunction with a tap selector to carry, make, and break current in circuits that have already been selected. • 3.2 arcing tap switch: A switching device capable of carrying current and also breaking and making current while selecting a tap position. It, thereby, combines the duties of an arcing switch and a tap selector
Duty cycles as per IEC Converter switch = diverter Selector switch = arcing tap switch
Flag cycle • Always only one contact closed • If one resistor open – ripple is 100% • Majority of OLTCs works like this
Symmetrical pennant cycle • Always two contacts closed • If one resistor is open, ripple is not 100% If one resistor is shorted • Strange graph • looks like the next slide
