TWO WEEK SCHEDULE • One Language Program • No modern language, Latin is standard • 12 study halls per two week rotation • Program with Modern Language • Latin and Modern Language are taken • 6 study halls per two week rotation

ARTS 7 • Program changes each quarter • Course includes studio art, instrumental music & choral singing, and drama • Meets 5 times during two week rotation
ARTS 8 • Students select two • Offerings are: • Studio Art • Choral Singing • Instrumental music • Drama • Wood Art
Classics • Reading-based approach to learning Latin vocabulary and grammar. • Develop a sense of Roman history and culture through mythology and culture readings
English • Study of grammar and vocabulary, • Literary themes include: Growing Up, Varieties of Cultures (racial, historical, geographical, religious) and Genres • Novels, poetry and drama.
History • 7th Grade • Broad overview of the developing world. • Archaeology, geography and history of non-western countries of Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. • 8th Grade • Ancient World and the Middle Ages in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome and China. The course includes the spread of Islam.
MATHEMATICS 7 • Applied Arithmetic • Basic Algebra skills • Geometry and Measurement • Scientific calculators required • Diagnostic Test required of all 7th graders
MATHEMATICS 8 • Algebra I • Accelerated and regular track • Scientific calculators required • Placement test required
Modern Languages • Two languages offered: • French and Spanish • Approximately two-thirds of the 7th grade students take both Latin and a Modern Language • New 8th grade students – may take Modern Language in addition to or in lieu of Latin
Science • 7th Grade • Scientific method, minerals, rocks, earth history, plate tectonics, • CT geology, earthquakes, volcanoes, • basic ecology, cycles in nature, biomes. • 8th Grade • Scientific method, • Newton’s laws of motion, work, power and simple machines, • mechanical energy, heat energy • classifying matter, structure of matter, chemistry.
7th Grade Math Diagnostic Test • When: Saturday May 19, 9 AM – 10 AM • Where: Heath Dining Room • What to bring: • A scientific calculator • A pencil
7th Grade Math Placement Tests • Mathematics • Only for 7th graders who seek advanced standing • Saturday, May 19 in Heath Dining Room • 10 A.M.- Immediately following Math Diagnostic Test • no calculators allowed
7th & 8th Grade Language Placement Test • Only for those who may qualify for advanced standing in Modern or Classical Language • 10 AM on Saturday, May 12 in Baldwin Hall • Contact appropriate department head • Classics, David Harpin, x 131, • Modern Language, Sue Wineland, x 128
