Who is Multimedia Victoria? http://www.mmv.vic.gov.au/broadband • The Victorian State agency for ICT – focussed on: • Effective ICT use in government administration and service delivery; • Local ICT industry development; • Digital divide; and • Broadband infrastructure and services deployment for economic and social development. • Broadband Framework is key policy document
Key relevant Broadband Framework enabling programs • Telecommunications Purchasing & Management Strategy (the procurement vehicle for WoVG telecommunications) • $89m VicSmart program: • Provides more than 1,600 Victorian Government schools with a high speed (4 megabit/sec) broadband connection (fibre tails, cost effective upgrades as demanded) • $15m Broadband Innovation Fund – demonstrating the innovative and effective use of broadband in service delivery
Broadband Innovation Fund (BIF) • Created to finance new and innovative uses of broadband by Victorian Government agencies • BIF funds pilots that stretch the boundaries of what can be done to deliver government services in a better and more cost effective way • Funding pool valued at $15 million to be delivered over three years (2004 – 2007) • Focus on health, education, sustainability and environment
$2.8m Knowledge Network (a BIF project) • Consists of: • VGEX (a gateway that enables the connection of Victorian agency clouds to ASPs, ISPs and other networks) • Australian Academic and Research Network (AARNET) and Cultural Broadband Network (CBN) connections • demonstrations utilising these infrastructures • Rationale: COIns don’t just reside within the Vic Gov; public content on-Net; more effective ASP supply, etc
CBN and AARNET Connectivity Connectivity component of Knowledge Networks project is limited to the provision of: • a link from VGEx to CBN; and • a link from VGEx to AARNET to enable provision of AARNET content via VGEx to Telecommunications Carriage Services (TCS) connected WoVG departments and agencies.
Far East Gippsland BIF Project • Total project value of $2.16 million over 3 years • 10 school communities across Far East Gippsland • Optical fibre internet access • Video conferencing facilities and electronic interactive whiteboards • Delivering cutting edge technology to more than 1000 students and 100 teachers

Yarra Valley BIF Project • $12.7 million world class, technology rich eLearning environment • Cluster of 48 schools where ICT is integrated into every aspect of the school curriculum • Characterised by a range of technologies working together to allow any student to access learning anytime and anywhere • Driving significant improvements in teacher and student effectiveness
