  2. Simple Animals Animals that have bodies made up of only a few types of cells are called simple animals. • Sponges-bodies look like bags • Worms-bodies are like tubes

  3. Complex Animals • This category includes most animals. • Bodies are made up of many parts. • Such as : dogs, cats, cows, birds, etc.

  4. Vertebrates • These animals have backbones. • The skeleton inside the body supports the animal. • These include: humans and other mammals, reptiles, and many others

  5. Invertebrates • No backbone • Body is supported by an outer shell, instead of bones on the inside • Including arthropods (animals that have legs with several joints): ants, spiders, and crabs

  6. Major difference between plants and animals is . . . • Plants make their own food, by a process called photosynthesis. • Animals do not make their own food.
