  2. Birthplace • Robert Doisneau was born in Gentilly in the Val-de-Marne, France.

  3. Education • He studied at the Ecole Estienne • After graduation he found what he had learned useless and antiquated

  4. His Work • Accepted work from Life magazine and Vogue magazine • Did freelance advertising and postcard photography • Worked for the Rapho photo agency until drafted in 1939 • Took pictures of many French artist also

  5. Style • He was known for his modest, playful, and ironic images of amusing juxtapositions, mingling social classes, and eccentrics in Paris streets and cafes.

  6. Explanation of Style • Doisneau’s style was all about funny or pleasant happenings occurring on the streets of Paris. Doisneau liked to photograph children playing or having fun. • Also certain romantic and documentary photos of France. • One of his most famous photos is the Kiss at the Hotel de Ville ( bottom right)

  7. Influences • Robert Doisneau was inspired and influence by the work of Kertesz, Atget, and Cartier-Bresson Atget Kertesz Cartier-Bresson Doisneau liked to capture moments of human frailty and life as a series of quiet, incongruous moments

  8. Pictures I chose this picture of Picasso taken by Doisneau in 1952. I like the composition in the photo because you can see al the details of Picasso’s face and everything, the lighting is artificial but it still is a great photo. The lines on his shirt really draw attention to the eye. Fox Terrier, taken by Doisneau in 1953. The light is not artificial be cause it was actually taken during the daytime. The main subject of the photo is the man, how he is the darkest and biggest object in the photo. It really draws the attention of the eye. The composition works very well especially how the man is the darkest figure on the photo.

  9. Pictures Kiss by the Hotel de Ville taken in 1950. Normal lighting. The main subject of the photo would be the couple kissing. The composition works very well in this photo especially since the couple is dark and very forward. Les Jardins du Champs de Mars. Taken 1950. Again this light is not artificial but real light. The main subject really is main subjects, I believe the two things that most draw the eye is not only the children but also the Eiffel Tower in the background. The composition of the photo is very good since you can see the shadows of the children and the gravel on the road
