What is web development? Web development is an umbrella term for several different activities which are involved in developing a website for the Internet (World Wide Web) or an intranet (a private network). Web design, web content development, client-side/server-side scripting, e-commerce development are some aspects of the umbrella term “Web development”. Web development as an industry We have seen a dramatic transformation in the Web development industry since the web explosion in the 90’s. From individually made text heavy websites to the contemporary websites which are planned and made by a team of professional web designers, coders, content designers and graphic artists; there is huge transformation as the web commercialized. A large portion of businesses budget goes in web development where websites are also a big source of revenue for their owners. Even though not all the websites are made on the same level, many design houses hire a few people whose duties overlap and on the other hand there are some websites which are made by individuals for small businesses. This transformation of the web is pushed majorly by businesses wish to sell their products and services online.Advanced technologyand the rise of easy to use Web development software have also contributed to the blooming of web development industry.An ever growing set of tools and technologies have helped developers build more dynamic and interactive websites. E-commerce websites are a very big example of transformation that has taken place in the web development industry.
