Why was prohibition repealed? • The ban reduced drinking but never stopped it • Respect for the law was undermined • Americans were buying liquor in speakeasies or from bootleggers • By 1933, the 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment • The 18th amendment is the only amendment ever to be repealed
