History of Narcissism • The word narcissism comes from the greek myth of Narcissus. • Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water.
Symptoms Of Narcissism • Obsessive self interest • Need of constant attention or praise • Exaggerated talents and achievements • Self centered goals • Strong reaction to criticism • Being preoccupied with fantasies of power, love, and fame • Will take advantage of others to achieve their own goals
Causes of Narcissism • Believed to be part genetic, Possibly a recessive gene • Mainly child abuse and abandonment issues • Parents are usually judgemental, demanding, and perfectionist.
More likely to Develop it • You are more likely to develop the disorder if you've experienced: • Lack of affection and praise in adolescence • Neglect and emotional abuse in childhood • Parents that push their kids hard to succeed
