Preparing for Year 6 andhow you will help your child to do well at school. Mrs Douglas, Mr Metcalfe, Mr Noon and Mr Davies.
The year 6 team Class teachers = Mrs Douglas and Mr Metcalfe Support Staff = Mr Davies and 1-1 support staff. Maths support/extra tuition = Mr Noon (assistant head) Mr Metcalfe Reading & Writing support/extra tuition = TBC Support at home = Our Year 6 families (Mums / dads / siblings / private tutors)
SATs Monday 11th May Grammar test and spelling test Tuesday 12th May Reading test Wednesday 13th May Arithmetic and maths reasoning Thursday 14th May Maths reasoning
The Basics…. • Children in school on time every day 8:50 in line. • Healthy breakfasts and lunches. Fruit and veg! • No appointments AT ALL during the school day • Read with your child! EVERY DAY if possible but at least 3 times each week. Sign and comment in the Reading Record. • Provide a quiet space for children to do their homework • Help with homework that they don’t understand • No absences. • Attend parents’ evening • YOU make sure homework is completed and in on time. Praise!
The icing on the cake… • We encourage extra tuition! Especially for reading and maths • Make sure children have time to relax and enjoy themselves properly at weekends – swimming / zoo / trampoline parks / picnics / beach visits / museums / children’s gym / library visits / go to the park
Reading This year, most primary schools in the UK had 73% of children pass reading. At St Thomas’ 65% of children passed.
Maths 79% of children nationally passed maths. 87% of St Thomas’ children passed maths.

Our trip to RobinwoodFriday 5th June – 7th June 2020 The maximum cost is currently £205, there is the potential for this price to come down during the year depending on numbers and funding. A deposit of £20 must be paid on parent pay by Friday 19th July.
