POVERTY Wealth Gap ($120k Whites, $5.5k Hispanic, $4.5k African American) (Resource: Pew) 47 Million in Poverty / 30 Million Working Poor (Resource: US Census) 37 Million African American (12%) Unemployment: Adults 14.3% & Youth 22.4% (Resource Dept. Labor) South LA 47.9% population under 25 yrs. in age, 30% 0-15 yrs. old. (Resource: DMH vulnerable communities population report) Service Planning Area 6 ranks highest in the County of Los Angeles in the following categories according to the UCLA School of Public Affairs • Percentage of population living in poverty (29%) • Percent of children and youth living in poverty (40%) • Percentage of adult population with no high school diploma (46%) • Percentage of children and youth who are uninsured (11.3%) • Percent of adults reporting their health to be fair or poor (33.4%) and • Homicide death rate of children and youth (per 100,000)
