    1. PostCoital test (PCT)

    2. PCT (Sims-Huhner ) test : A part of infertility evaluation To determine: 1- the receptivity of cervical mucus 2- the ability of sperm to penetrate the cervical mucus and to maintain activity

    3. Specimen collection : - test should be performed * prior to ovulation and as closely as possible to that time (using BBT, hormonal assays, ) * 2-12 hrs after intercourse

    4. Testing procedure : 1- volume of mucus is measured 2-the amount of mucus is determined ( scant, moderate, profuse ) 3- color and clarity is noted 4- Spinnbarkeit test 5- microscopic evaluation ( number and motility of sperms )

    5. Reporting results : Volume Color Clarity Spinnbarkeit Sperm per hpf Percentage of mobile sperms Other cellular elements or organisms

    6. Expected results : Clear , watery and profuse mucus Spinnbarkeit at least 10 cm 5-10 motile sperm / hpf

    7. Limitations of the procedure : Not performed during the midcycle ovulatory cycle Use of dirty or contaminated materials 12 hrs after intercourse Inadequate evaluation due to excess vaginal secretions Examining the cervical mucus after drying ( killing active spermatozoa )
