Objectives • Identify the role of big business in US industrialization • Know how immigration helped the US to become an industrial giant.
Objectives • Identify inventions of this time period that helped industrialization • Know the relationship between workers, unions, and management in this time period
Objectives • Be able to list and explain the pros and cons of US industrialization • In short, be able to identify the factors and causes of US industrialization.
Materials Needed • A video that gives an overview of the US industrialization • Five or six poster boards and markers for the students to use • The class textbook
Materials Needed • Pencil and paper for the students to copy down the concept map that will be created in class • Worksheets that will be distributed by the teacher
Activity One • As a whole, the class will watch a video that covers US industrialization in the time period of 1880-1920. This video will be more of an overview than anything else. It will allow the students to get a light introduction to US industrialization.
Activity Two • Key terms, people, and phrases will be listed on the board. The students are to use their book and a sheet of paper to explain or identify these terms and people.
Activity Three • The students will be given a worksheet created by the teacher that will incorporate the materials in the class text. The students are to read the text and complete the worksheet. After this is completed, the class will go over the worksheet as a whole, allowing the teacher to better explain the time period and contributing factors.
Activity Four • As a whole, the class will develop a concept map on the board that allows the class to understand how factors intertwine with other factors to cause or aid US industrialization.
Activity Five • The students will be handed a worksheet that covers the causes and factors of US industrialization. The students are to work in groups of three or four to complete the worksheet.
Activity Six • Students will get into groups of three or four and will receive a poster board and markers. The groups are to create a detailed concept map of US industrialization that is more detailed than the concept map that the class created as a whole earlier.
