Explore the differing viewpoints within the Christian community on vaccinations, with arguments based on biblical teachings and the importance of public health.

Viewpoint: “The Bible teaches that the body is ‘The temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.’ (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV) To inject known neurotoxins into our children, which have known health risks, would be a violation of these biblical teachings.” http://jesus-is-savior.com/Health_Concerns/Vaccines/biblical_support-not_vaccinating.htm
Viewpoint: “Vaccination is not only best for your child, it is best for those around us as well…In this situation, we need to remember that we are our brother’s keeper (Genesis 4:9). Choosing not to vaccinate and to hide in the herd of everyone else who is puts others unnecessarily at risk, and as we have seen these past few weeks, does not work. Vaccination is pro-life and pro-neighbor because it serves the public good.” http://erlc.com/article/3-reasons-christians-should-vaccinate-with-confidence
Viewpoint: “But wait, what about my neighbor?Apparently, I owe my neighbor a Christian duty to get vaccinated…but you see, I don’t owe my neighbor any duty that conflicts with God’s Word. After God, I owe a duty to my child, not your child…and my child is not getting vaccinated.” http://www.livingwhole.org/god-does-not-support-vaccines/
Viewpoint: “The Bible teaches us that we are not to harm or wrong our neighbor. (Romans 13:10 and James 2:8) Our decisions to decline vaccines do not wrong or threaten our neighbor. If vaccines were truly effective, the neighbor would not be in danger from someone who is not vaccinated.” http://jesus-is-savior.com/Health_Concerns/Vaccines/biblical_support-not_vaccinating.htm
Viewpoint: “God saw all that he had made and ‘it was very good.’ God’s perfect. Nothing further needed. ‘Yeah, but then sin entered the world?’ Oh yes, and so did our arrogance. We actually think ‘we’ hold the key to improving upon His design…as if He forgot something when He created the immune system. Thank God He created us to fix it, right? Sin gave us the capacity to perform all sorts of evil deeds, so the fact that God gave us the ability to make vaccines is not a reason to use them (1 Peter 2:16).” http://www.livingwhole.org/god-does-not-support-vaccines/
Viewpoint: “So, if you are a Christian, and you are wondering whether you should vaccinate your children, look at the teachings of Jesus. That’s right, I think Jesus would have been pro-vaccine. He was a healer, after all. Vaccines have prevented scores of disabling and deadly diseases in children. And had they had vaccines in first-century Galilee, it might have cut down on Jesus’ miracle workload, which he seemed to dislike anyway.” http://time.com/3698055/christian-case-vaccinating-kids/
Viewpoint: “Many Christians have adopted the mindset that we should be skeptical of science. But to be skeptical does not mean to disregard. We should also be aware that the study of science is defined as the ‘the observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena.’ The observation of the natural world that God created (Genesis 1:1) and that Jesus upholds (Colossians 1:17) should only draw us closer to him and help us to understand him better.” http://erlc.com/article/3-reasons-christians-should-vaccinate-with-confidence
Viewpoint: “Neurotoxins, hazardous substances, attenuated viruses, animal parts, foreign DNA, albumin from human blood, carcinogens, and chemical wastes are all ingredients in your child’s vaccinations and not one of them are proven safe. Not…a…single…one.” http://www.livingwhole.org/god-does-not-support-vaccines/
Viewpoint: “Vaccines are safe. Studies have shown this to be true over and over again. The basic science of vaccines is sound and proven. Additive ingredients in the vaccines are not ‘toxins’.They are chemicals that are found in nature. Your child will get more mercury from a tuna fish sandwich, more aluminum from breast milk or formula, and more formaldehyde from a pear than they will receive from vaccinations. Population studies looking at vaccine safety have consistently shown they are safe. The biggest and one of the most recent studies from Australia looked at more than 1.2 million children and showed no association with autism for vaccination, MMR, thimerosal, or mercury.” http://erlc.com/article/3-reasons-christians-should-vaccinate-with-confidence
