CAREERS HOUSING & INTERIOR DESIGN
Architect Plan and design structures, such as private residences, office buildings, theaters, factories, and other structural property.
Cabinetmakers Cut, shape, and assemble wooden articles or set up and operate a variety of woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, and mortisers, to surface, cut, or shape lumber or to fabricate parts for wood products.
Carpet& Floor Installers... Lay and install carpet from rolls or blocks on floors. Install padding and trim flooring materials. Apply blocks, strips, or sheets of shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, or decorative coverings to floors.
Cement Masons & Concrete Finishers... Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs, using a variety of hand and power tools. Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids; use saws to cut expansion joints
Construction Carpenters... Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools.
Draftsman... Prepare detailed drawings of architectural designs and plans for buildings and structures according to specifications provided by architect. May be specialized, as an electrical draftsman, architectural draftsman, plumbing draftsman, etc.
Drywall Installers... Apply plasterboard or other wallboard to ceilings and interior walls of buildings.
Home Appliance Repair... Repair, adjust, and install all types of electric household appliances.
Electrician... Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. May install or service street lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems.
Heating & Air Conditioning Technicians... Install, service, and repair heating and air-conditioning systems in residences and commercial establishments.
Inspectors... Inspect structures using engineering skills to determine structural soundness and compliance with specifications, building codes, and other regulations. Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area, such as electrical systems or plumbing.
Interior Decorator... Works with existing structures and client preferences, adding backgrounds such as floor, window, and wall coverings as well as furnishings.
Interior Designer... Plan, design, and furnish interiors of residential, commercial, or industrial buildings. Formulate design that is practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving lifestyle. May specialize in a particular field, style, or phase of interior design.
Landscaper... Plan, design, and/or create land areas for such projects such as home exterior planning or parks and other recreational facilities, airports, highways, hospitals, schools, land subdivisions, and commercial, industrial, and residential sites.
Painter... Paint walls, equipment, buildings, bridges, and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. May remove old paint to prepare surface prior to painting. May mix colors or oils to obtain desired color or consistency.
Paperhanger... Cover interior walls and ceilings of rooms with decorative wallpaper or fabric, or attach advertising posters on surfaces, such as walls and billboards. Duties include removing old materials from surface to be papered.
Plumbers... Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
Real Estate Agent or Broker... Assists clients in appraising, buying, selling, renting, and leasing property. Real Estate management is a related career in which the agent manages large housing units such as apartment buildings. They might interview prospective tenants, maintain the property, collect the rents, and report to the building owner.
Retail Sales... Makes presentations to clients, assisting them in decision making about purchases related to the home. Space planners, color specialists, textile specialists, furniture showroom salespeople, lighting specialists, furniture restorers, etc. are just a few of the specialty areas.
Roofer... Cover roofs of structures with shingles, slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood, and related materials. May spray roofs, sidings, and walls with material to bind, seal, insulate, or soundproof sections of structures.
