Internet addiction • 17 % of children between 11-16 years old say that they gone without sleeping or eating because of the Internet • 32% declare negative social consequenses because of the excessive use of the Internet • 60% of children declare adiction symptoms because of the excessive use of smartphones • Almost a third (30%) of children report one or more of the experiences associated with excessive internet use „fairly or very often

Kids and social networks… 57% of children are active on the social networks while only 54% of them know how to protect the profile’s privacy Facebook is open for kids over 13 however many of them is below that age and these are often parents who help them create online profiles „On FB I care about my reputation but on other SNS I can put what I want – adults do not go there (tumblr, twitter, little gossip, formspring) - 123people

Every move online leaves a trace • June 8, 2010 came into force amendments to the Penal Code, which criminalize dealings grooming children on the Internet.  • The Penal Code provides for an offense of this type to two years imprisonment (Article 200a § 2) or up to three years imprisonment if the perpetrator used the example of ignorance or unawareness of the child (Article 200a § ) • In a media campaign the Helpline.org.pl was promoted

  14. “I don't accept, connect nor enter...” For the past five years, more than 17,000 incidents of online abuse have been reported to Dyżurnet.pl. The number of incidents grew from less than 1,000 in 2005 to 5,000 in 2010. In the first half of 2011, 2778 incidents were reported to Dyżurnet.pl team members. The social campaign “I don't accept, connect nor enter...” that has been launched on 3rd of August is aimed at drawing the attention of Internauts to the need of responding to incidents and building awareness in this area.

International Conferences “Keeping Children and Young People Safe Online” For the 5th time already, the International Conference “Keeping Children and Young People Safe Online” had been held on 20-21 September at Marriott Hotel in Warsaw The Conference is organized by the Polish SIC and (for the 4th time in cooperation with klicksafe, Germany) This year the conference was organized under the patronage of Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union The conference is targeted at representatives of the educational sector, NGO’s, justice and law enforcement agencies as well as Internet service and content providers The objective of the event is to present the latest achievements in education on safety online and combating illegal web content Since 2007 more then 2500 professionals participated in the event

  25. Helpline.org.pl • Since 2007 Helpline.org.pl recieved about 100 000 reports. Approx. 8500 reports were eligible reports - related to online dangers, such as: cyberbullying, dangerous contacts, Internet addiction,data thievery, inappropriate cotnent and to general questions about safety online. The number of eligible reports has increased since 2010 The new release of Helpline.org.pl website and promotional materials.

Youth Participation The Youth Panel is thought as a consultation group where young people can express their views and exchange knowledge and experiences concerning their use of online technologies. Young people are also asked to contribute to the design of awareness raising actions, tools and material, and thus contribute to defining future activities of the Polish Safer Internet Centre. The Youth Panel reviews existing materials on online safety and provides feedback as to how useful the tools are. • From October 2010 to September 2011 three sessions of Youth Panel were held during which children were asked their opinion on various issues concerning Internet safety.

Congress of the Young Internauts • the aim is to create a platform of communication of professionals, students and teachers • the first meeting of the Congress was held on 26th of May • 32 pupils and 16 teachers • pupils worked in 3 groups on preparation of educational materials: a project of schools’ website section about online safety, an interactive board game, a poster
