Roma people living in Glasgow are usually coming from villages, towns and cities in the east part of Slovakia
Employment issues of the Roma community in Glasgow • low paid, irregular and temporary jobs • exploitation by employment agencies People waiting for a van to take them to the potato factory

Housing issues of the Roma community • substandard and expensive accommodation • flats mostly owned by private landlords • Overcrowding • No tenancy agreements • Illegal evictions
Self- perpetuating system No fear of contradiction: • "Roma are uneducated" • "Roma don't care about education" • "Roma are happy to send their children to Special schools" • "Roma are unemployed, they don't work" • "Roma live off welfare, they are a drain on society". The Roma population in Central and Eastern Europe was humiliated in all spheres of live for so long that they appear not to be able to understand what it represents in terms of a horrendous assault on common humanity...
What can be done for us? • Roma people have to be consulted about the projects focused on the Roma community • Roma need to be given voice • Public recognition of the Roma ethnicity • Trainings and cultural awareness raising activities • Empowerment of the Roma women
