LONG term GOALS • ADOPT 21st CENTURY TEACHING APPROACHES TO DEVELOP IN STUDENTS: • a) a comprehensive view of the world. • b) intellectual and moral habits. • c)a sense of social responsibility. • d)discipline in work habits cooperation,organisation,task completion. • e)fluency in speaking and writing skills. • f)higher order thinking and critical ability to analyze a piece of literature. • g)openess and thoughtfulness in response to literature.
SHORT TERM GOALS • TRAINING STUDENTS TO RECOGNIZE THE REALITIES OF AND PROBLEMS OF LIFE AND A MEANS TO SOLVE THEM. • INCULCATING SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ETHICAL BEHAVIOR ON PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY LEVEL. • FOCUSING ON REVEALING THE VALUES OF TRUTH,GOODNESS,HONESTY AND BEAUTY. • DEVELOPING HIGHER ORDER AND CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY IN STUDENTS. • INCULCATING HABIT OF READING AND REFLECTING UPON A WORK OF LITERATURE.
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES • I WILL ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO FIND THEIR OWN RHYTHM FOR READING AND APPRECIATING THE NOVEL AND THEN MAKE A REPORT ON EVERY CHAPTER. • I WILL ASK QUESTIONS STIMULATING BRAIN STORMING AND enQUIREFROM THEM HOW THEY REACHED A CERTAIN VERDICT. • I WILL EVALUATE STUDENTS THROUGH THEIR DEBATE ON ISSUES RAISED BY THE NOVEL. • I WILL PREPARE STUDENTS TO FORM THEIR OPINION ABOUT SIGNIFICAN PARTS OF THE NOVEL ,SO THEY CAN FOCUS ON HUMAN ISSUES RAISED BY THE PLOT BY ENACTING THEM • TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF THE TIME PERIOD,SETTING AND CONDITIONS OF THE AGE OF THE NOVEL,I WOULD ASK THEM TO INVESTIGATE AND MAKE A REPORT. • I WILL GIVE THEM SHORT QUESTIONS AND QUIZzES TO TEST THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THE PLOT,PHILOSOPHY AND CHARACTERS OF THE NOVEL.
SOLUTIONS TO ANTICIPATED CHALLENGES 1) STUDENTS MAY NOT WANT TO READ ON THEIR OWN. 2) STUDENTS MAY FEEL DISINTERESTED HALF WAY THROUGH THE NOVEL DUE TO ITS LENGTH. 3) STUDENTS MAY NOT UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITY OF A CHARACTER AND HIS/HER REACTION IN A SITUATION. 4) STUDENTS MAY NOT BE INTERESTED IN WRITING LONG DESCRIPTIVE ANSWERS. 1) I WILL CREATE GROUPS IN CLASS WHERE GROUP LEADERS CAN READ AND THEN DICUSS THE STORY WITH OTHER MEMBERS AND EVERY WEEK GROUP LEADER WILL BE CHANGED. 2) I WILL MENTION THE INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN BITS AND PIECES WHICH WOULD TRIGGER INTEREST IN THE STORY. 3) I WILL MAKE AN EFFORT TO RELATE THOSE CHARACTERS AND EVENTS WITH THEIR OWN LIVES WHICH WOULD HELP THEM TO IDENTIFY WITH THEM. 4) I WILL GIVE THEM MCQ’s and quizzes to judge their comprehension of the story.
TIME LINE • AUGUST/ OCTOBER • I WILL ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS ,FIND SOLUTIONS THROUGH LOGICAL THINKING AND QUESTIONS. • NOVEMBER/JANUARY • I WILL FOCUS ON DEVELOPMENT OF BETTER VOCABULARY, CREATIVE THINKING AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. • FEBRUARY/APRIL • I WILL AIM AT CREATING CONDUSIVE ENVIRONMENT IN THE CLASS ROOM FOR EXCHANGE OF IDEAS,ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND COLLABORATIVE WORK. • MAY….! • I WILL EFFECTIVELY MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO COMPREHEND,ANALYSE,APPRECIATE A WORK OF LITERATURE THROUGH HIGHER ORDER CRITICAL THINKING DEVELOPED THROUGH adopting 21 ST CENTURY TEACHING APPROACHES IN CLASS.
