  2. Brain on Silicone • This tool will make it possible for you to use only the “ power of the mind” to control a computer. Where computers only read and decodes signals, the Brain-Computer Interfaces will be able to receive all that information directly from the brain. This technology has been mainly used for quadriplegics, people diagnosed with “locked-in syndrome”, or ones who had overcome a stroke. • Tools similar to this one has also been implanted in some of the more frequent users directly into their brain and has contributed to the restoration of their vision or people who have lost their sight completely.

  4. BCI in Health Care • If patients receive BCI, statistics have demonstrated that they recover “more quickly from serious mental traumas, especially if there is underlying physical trauma that interprets the patient incapable of communicating”. The constant interfacing with a computer have helped patients to report a higher rate of mental engagement and hopefully a much faster recovery rate. • “BCI technology shows promising signs in both preventing and delaying the onset of dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease in the elderly”. • So far in Asia, BCI technology has already taken effect in helping handicapped individuals write Chinese characters. This program is better known as P300 Chinese Speller, which promises to benefit the lives of many as well as hopefully cure people diagnosed with paralysis.

  5. BCI in Consumer Electronics (Games)

  6. BCI in Consumer Electronics • BCI has become one of the top gifts this past holiday season. Some of its top games had been the “levitation” ball that reacted from changes in brain waves conducted by the gamer. Some of the popular games were “ Star Wars ‘Force Trainer’ game” and “Neuronauts”. • Not only can a person play by themselves, but there are also multiple player options for other gamers who have a BCI. • How this works: • “BCI chip monitored the player's mental state and adjusted airflow to a ball inside a plastic chamber - causing it to go up or down in direct response to the player's thoughts” • Some of the other games include conscious mental connections with mobile phones, PCs and even dreams.

  7. “Neuronauts” The Game

  8. Questions: 1. Could BCI become the next addition to modern day gaming to XBOX one or the new version of Wii? 2. Would you be willing to purchase BCI in the future? 3. What benefits could come from the new BCI invention?
