What is a Resume? A Resume is a summary of your training, background, and qualifications for a job.
Parts of a Resume • There are many ways to format a resume, but it must include the following parts: • Heading • Objective • Experience • Honors, Awards, and Activities • References
The Heading • It includes your: • Name, address, telephone number (with area code), and e-mail address if you have one.
The Objective • It is a statement about the type of job your are seeking, for example: • I am seeking to establish a position that will allow me to utilize my word processing skills and knowledge to assist a company in reaching its goals. • I am seeking a position that will allow me to utilize my skills and knowledge in the field of business.
Education • Is a list of your educational background beginning with the highest level of and most recent education first. Include school name, address, diplomas, or degrees. • Include the year you graduated and your major area of study.
List your work experience beginning with the most recent. Include the name and address, telephone number of the employer Experience
Honors, Awards, and Activities • List special activities or achievements that relate to the position for which you are applying.
List at least three people who can tell a prospective employer about what kind of worker you are. Include their names, job titles, addresses and telephone numbers. People to include: Teachers, former supervisors, former employers References
