Fields of Work Ideas for projects come from… • Bonn Science Shop’s own ideas • follow-up on existing projects • networks in which we work • community partner inquiries, ideas, needs • funders Research (in its broadest sense) is done for the benefit of community and community groups … but is not necessarily demand driven. Project development highly reflects engagement and commitment of staff in recognizing upcoming problems and issues in society. Projects are in line with our statutes – and the definitions of Science Shops Definition A Science Shop provides independent participatory research support in response to concerns experienced by civil society.
Developing Projects and Activities Civil Society and Sustainability 1995 Expert congress ”Citizen participation as the driving force in the politics of local climate protection” City of Bonn, the Ökologiestiftung (Ecology Foundation) NRW and the Climate Alliance of European Cities 1997 ”How to develop a project to implement Local Agenda 21” Concept for and management of seminars in various towns; funded by Ökologiestiftung (Ecology Foundation), NRW 1998 ”Local Agenda 21 Handbook“: An information and methodology guide developed and published with a CBR organisation (TU WAS e.V.)

Ministry of Environment, NRW 2005 Land – without end? 19 exhibition boards and a brochure give a graphic impression of the way land use in various towns has developed: NRW-Stiftung Natur, Kultur, Heimat (NRW Foundation Nature, Culture, Home) 2005 Role play ”Using space instead of wasting it” The exercise puts young people in the position of local politicians and thereby sensitizes them to concrete decisions concerning the land development plan of their town.Environment and Development Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia
