Structure of an American resume • There is not one form you can buy and fill out the necessary information like in Korea and other countries. • You need to be creative in layout. You do not want your resume to look like everyone else’s
Resume Content American style • Personal data • Job objective • Education • Work experience • Volunteer work • Honors & Activities • Specialized skills • References
Content & Language • Do not have to have a full sentence • Never want to use pronouns (I, my, mine). It is implied • Do not abbreviate, unless it is industry standard • Always start with a strong action word
Resume: Your Advertisement • Focus on • Important strengths and skills outside of work that make you an excellent candidate for employment • What makes you unique • Work and volunteer experiences • Information and words that grab the employers attention • Not being too modest! ForHire
