  1. MASTER 2013 HyspIRI Data Collection Summary • Review of Instrument Characteristics • Time Line of 2013 Activities • MASTER Level-1B Description • Notes for the Upcoming 2014 Season

  2. MASTER Instrument Characteristics LWIR Dewar Hold Time Supports 8hr ER2 flights http://masterweb.jpl.nasa.gov/

  3. MASTER Spectral Bands Near-IR Mid-Wave IR Short-Wave IR Thermal IR

  4. MASTER Band Placement (VSWIR/MWIR) H2O H2O CO2 CO2 O2 H2O H2O “Window” and Atmospheric bands

  5. MASTER Band Placement (LWIR) O3 CO2 H2O B45 Intermittent

  6. 2013 MASTER IR Calibration: Spectral Response Measurements (MW & LWIR) ** Black = Feb Red = April (LW only) Green = July Blue = Dec ** April MWIR spot-check only

  7. Thermal Band Saturation Levels * The 4.07um band is recorded redundantly with high and low gains. The low gain band saturation could be further extended to 850°K with a modified pre-amplifier

  8. 2013 – Timeline of MASTER HyspIRI Activities • 2/28 System Calibration at ARC (spectral & radiometric) • 3/26 - 4/19 HyspIRI data flights • (System fail on 4/12 (So. Calif Box) No LWIR data recorded) • 4/27 System Calibration at ARC (spectral & radiometric) • 5/2 – 6/26 HyspIRI data flights • 5/20 Level 1B data delivery • 7/11 System Calibration at ARC (spectral & radiometric) • 8/15 Level 1B data delivery • 9/13 - 9/24 HyspIRI data flights • 10/30 - 12/5 HyspIRI data flights • (System fail on 10/31 (SF West Box) No data recorded) • 12/19 System Calibration at ARC (spectral & radiometric) • 1/19/2014 Final Level 1B data delivery

  9. MASTER Level 1B HDF Data The Hierarchical Data Format (HDF) was selected by the EOSDIS Project for standard product distribution. HDF consists of a directory structure and a collection of data objects or Scientific Data Sets (SDS). MASTER HDF image data is stored as integer but unpacked to real (floating point) data in radiance units. MASTER HDF currently consists of 49 Global attributes and 38 Scientific Data Sets • 15 SDS’ for calibration information • 8 SDS’ for Applanix navigation information • 15 SDS’ for engineering information Software is available to import MASTER HDF, and is standard in ENVI. Unpacking code available to strip image data out of HDF format at: http://www.hdfgroup.org

  10. Notes on the 2014 Season • Level-1B Data Delivery: • An expedited L-1B product, based on preliminary calibration, can be generated daily post-flight if more rapid availability is desired in 2014. • Schedule constraints: • MASTER is required for SARP (DC-8) 6/16 – 6/27 • Cairns RSP/AVIRIS/MASTER flight requests (FRs 142006, 152005) in April and October remain to be scheduled. • Instrument Issues: • The data system failure on 4/12/2013 was related to a timing issue on the digitizer backplane, and was mitigated by re-routing the LWIR channels through an alternate path. • The failure to record in flight on 10/31/2013 could not be duplicated on the ground and may have been related to a disk failure. Those disks have been replaced.
