Classroom Rules • I will speak in English. If you don’t understand me, raise you hand and I will say it again. • Try hard to guess what I’m saying. I’ll sometimes ask you to tell me the meanings in Chinese. • The Heart in each group is the score keeper. He / She keeps group scores. • Asking a good question or answering a question in Chinese gets 1 point. • Asking a question or answering a question in English gets 2 points. • Answering correctly in Chinese gets 2 points. • Answering correctly in English gets 3 points. • The group gets the most points will get a small gift.
Questions to discuss • What does the message ‘mayday’ mean? And how do you know? • Where might the message be sent? From a train, a ship, or a plane? And how do you know? • What sounds does the German mix up? • Because of his poor English, do you think they were saved? • What does the ad want to tell you?

The musician answered, Uh-huh / OK / I see. “Why … do you have to be like others?” Uh-huh / OK / I see. What did the musician say? He said, “Why do you have to be like others?” If she asked you, what would you say? I would say, “__________”
The musician said, Uh-huh / OK / I see. “Music … is a visible thing.” Uh-huh / OK / I see. “Close your eyes.” Uh-huh / OK / I see. “You will see.” Uh-huh / OK / I see. Can you see music? Yes, we can see music. How can you see music? Close our eyes and we will see.

Story Telling Notes • The storyteller should practice TELLING or SPEAKING the story, one sentence at a time, not reading it. • If the storyteller doesn’t remember the complete sentence, he or she can stop, look again at the paper, remember it, and go on. • The listeners should close their eyes when listening to the storyteller. (It helps their imagination and concentration.) • The listeners should practice saying, “Uh-huh” or “OK” or “I see” after each time the storyteller pauses. This tells the storyteller that you understand.
Story Telling Notes • If you don’t understand, you need to say, “Hey, wait. Stop. I don’t understand.” “What did you say?” “Can you say that again?” • The listeners should try to answer the storyteller’s questions in complete sentences. • The listeners can ask the storyteller more questions to add the conversation more life and color. • The storyteller can ask one of the listeners by pointing him/her or by saying his/her name.
It’s Your Turn • Spade , be the story teller first. • If your group is fast. Then try to let Heart be the story teller. • Then Club , and then Diamond .
Homework • Each student in your group should try to be the storyteller after class. • Fill in the Peer & Self Assessment Rubric. • You should hand in your worksheets, Peer & Self Assessment Rubric on March 16, 2010.
