Goals of Foreign Language Classes • Pronounce target language words • Learn new vocabulary every day • Communicate in short phrases and write simple sentences • Learn basic grammar • Read basic passages in Spanish • Discover culture of target language countries
Grading Policy • 60% Major Grades • 30% Quizzes • 10% Daily
Grades • Major Grades: Tests and projects • Minor Grades: Quizzes, oral activities, and in-class assignments • Daily Grades: Daily assignments, homework, and classroom participation
Required Materials • 2 Inch binder • 5 Dividers • Wolf Tracker Planner • Pocket Folder (w/ or w/out brads) according to designated color for class period • 3 x 5 Index Cards • Sheet Protectors • Remaining materials will be listed on the class website
Homework Procedure • Student is expected to practice minimum 15 minutes daily. • Homework will be accepted 1 day after the original due date for a 75. • Day 2 for a 50. • After this date, the student will receive a 0.
Test Days • Major Test Days: Tuesday and Friday • Quizzes: Administered any day of the week
Retest Procedures • Student will be permitted a reasonable opportunity to redo, retake any failed major grade (excluding midterms and final exams). • Prior notification will be given for retesting dates. Retests will be administered before and after school within 1 week of receiving original results, unless an alternate time is arranged with the teacher by the student. • Extra credit will not be given to elevate a student’s grade.
Absences • It is student’s responsibility to complete the work missed within the allotted time. • Students will be given the same amount of days that he/she was absent to complete the missed assignments. • Tests and quizzes will need to be taken before or after school by appointment. If parents/students are aware of a future absence, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can be better prepared to assist you. • Due to this being a high school credit course, students with excessive unexcused absences may be in jeopardy of losing credit.
Tutoring • Tuesday Morning 8:15-8:40 a.m. with Sra. Richardson • Thursday Afternoon 4:10- 4:45 with Sra. Quintero • By appointment
Workbooks • Students will not be issued workbooks for Spanish II but they will be given handouts according to concepts taught. They will have access to this online.
Electronic Policy • Please review the electronic policy in the student handbook on page 46. • The electronic equipment will be confiscated and a parent/guardian will be required to pay a $15.00 fee in cash/money order to recover it during regular school hours.
Spanish Club • Spanish Club enrollment will begin September 9, 2013 • Please encourage your child to join. • Cost is $22.00 includes t-shirt and only one enrollment time – Fall Semester • If you would like to help with Spanish Club activities, please email Señora Richardson at wrichardson@kleinisd.net
