magnet operations vs. HBD HBD Meeting – 03/20/2007 Manuel Proissl
First assumption in February verified: there is a direct correlation between magnet operation and trips in the HBD • Quick Reminder: |> 02/08/07 [+-] :: duration of ~3:30h • 14 trips in West (8 in ramp up / 0 during operation / 6 in ramp down) • 31 trips in East (15 in ramp up / 5 during operation / 11 in ramp down) |> 02/09/07 [++] :: duration of ~1:30h • 3 trips in West (1 in ramp up / 2 during operation / 0 in ramp down) • 24 trips in East (11 in ramp up / 6 during operation / 7 in ramp down) |> 03/14/07 [+-] :: duration of ~2:00h / 28 West trips, 6 East trips • 1 dI change in West (1 in ramp down) • 7 dI change in East (6 during operation / 1 in ramp down) 1
**WN5 has been turned off after 3 trips in a row, when ramped back up to 3100V around 17:00 :: +0.4 -> +0.8 ***WS3 has been disabled on 02/07 3
Our reaction: Turning off HV during ramps (up/down) RESULTS ARE VERY PROMISING 7
** WN1 returned during operation :: +0.5 -> +0.3 ***ES2 has been disabled on 03/17 ~17:00 8
*substract 2 :: these have been induced by ES2!! comment: everything looks pretty stable!! 10
CONCLUSION • Overall comparison: HBD looks much more stable now! • Less trips than before. Trip/magnet correlation seemed to be vanished… NO trips after ramp up. • NO changes in the dI so far! • If CMs trip during the run, we should follow this procedure and turn the HV during ramps off. 11
