The Moral • The lesson that the “Buffalo Woman” teaches is its always best to keep a secret because you do not know what the consequences could be.
The Characters • The trickster of the story is the buffalo woman she tricks braveness who is the strongest warrior of the Caddo Tribe to go out on a hunt when she waits for him under a tree. When she takes him to meet her people she changes him and her into a buffalo and tells Braveness not to give into the other buffalos jealousy and anger. When the other buffalo get Braveness to run in a race with him the wind spirit helps him win so he wont be killed.
The Caddo Tribe • Located in the southern plains of Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana plains. • They was mainly farmers • They corn, beans, pumpkins, squashes, watermelons, sunflowers, and tobacco. • They also hunted things such as Hunting for bear, deer, small mammals, and birds
The Caddo Tribe Continued • France and Spain during the colonial era. • A large number of Caddos now live near Binger, Oklahoma, where their modern tribal center is located • When European travelers approached, they were usually met along the path by a contingent of greeters from the community. The travelers would be escorted to the dwelling of the caddi, the community leader, or to a special structure, and be seated in a place of honor. Here community leaders shared with the Europeans a smoke of tobacco from a calumet-an elaborately decorated pipestem and bowl, which created a bond of friendship that extended to all members of the respective communities
