Setting a CEN standard: why? • Objective: - to safeguard the printer - to measure yield • Our objective: performance measurement to allow for comparison • For: Inkjet Toner, monochrome Toner, colour • Under leadership of CEN (Comité Europeene pour Normalisation) • Participants: all national CEN-members, both recyclers and oem’s
CEN: European Authority for Normalisation Members: all national authorities, such as • DIN (D) • BSI (UK) • AENOR (E) • AFNOR (F) • UNI (I) • NEN (NL) • ON (AT) Basically still oem controlled
Situation • 3 final drafts are ready ! • Inkjet was guided by J. Kretschmer, Pelikan • Toner (mono & colour) was guided by P. Hortig, Embatex • These drafts now go to the national bodies for comment • Comments will be discussed again
Timepath • WE’RE NOT THERE YET!! • Inkjet: - up for enquiry now; closure 07/06- discussion 09/06- formal vote 03/07- final 11/07CE approval (CE label on products)
Timepath • Toner monochrome- up for enquiry now- closure 07/06- discussion 09/06- formal vote 03/07- final 11/07
Timepath • Toner colour- up for enquiry 11/06- discussion 05/07- effective sometime 2008 • Difficult……
Consequences • Important: no leaning back now • OEM’s trying to slow it down;the longer it takes, the more they like it • Recyclers must now stay involved through the national bodies • It’s a long road, but worthwhile in the end: a standard set by recyclers and OEM’s- allowing comparison…..
