IBM ISV Enablement Programs for Linux on System z • IBM has a number of programs that could assist ISVs with their enabling their solutions on Linux for System z. • Our main System z Linux ISV enablement portal is at: http://www.ibm.com/partnerworld/systemz/linux . • If the ISV's application currently runs on Linux on x86 architecture, it might be a prime candidate for our innovative "Chiphopper" program that combines technology, hardware access, and marketing for a complete enablement to Linux on System z and Linux on POWER, all in a no-fee offering to the ISV. • View http://ibm.com/isv/go/chiphopper for further details on this program. New Case Study Released – Marist College • Marist College exploits z/VM in its mainframe-based environment. New Novell Case Study, Baldor – SAP on Linux on z • Baldor Electric Company, located in Fort Smith, Arkansas markets, designs, and manufactures industrial electric motors, power transmission products, drives, and generators. With an expanding data center and frequent system outages, Baldor Electric migrated to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z to establish a more streamlined, highly available platform for its mission-critical SAP applications. Project Big Green – 2.0 (ECM) • One year ago IBM created Project Big Green, committing $1 billion a year to green technologies to help companies with these challenges; the System z10 EC, with its ability to dramatically reduce power consumption in the datacenter, is a powerful proof point. Students will learn how to planfor the deployment of CCL on System z. They will verify the Linux environment required for CCL, after which they will install CCL on Linux for System z. The students will make the NCP and VTAM changes which are sometimes required for a CCL implementation andwill learn to operate an NCP in CCL when VTAM is attached both via a LAN and via a Channel to the NCP in CCL.
