Key Facts about Johanna Reiss • Johanna Reiss was eight years old when the German war occupied Holland. Her family was Jewish and that put them in great danger during the war. • When Johanna was ten,her and her sister Sini were taken into hiding by a nice family, the Hanninks. Within a few weeks Johanna and Sini lived with a gentile family, the Oostervelds. Johanna and her sister hid at their house for over two years. • The Canadians arrived in Holland and chased the Germans back to Germany. After two years of hiding, the Reiss’s were free. The family joined together at there home in Winterswijk, Netherlands and started building their life back together.
