What is EALI? The program will bring together local leaders with diverse interests & backgrounds to participate in an intensive 10 month program designed to develop Elko’s future leaders who will be community minded & will help identify and implement solutions for the benefit of the community. Developing future community minded leaders who work and volunteer in the Elko Area
Mission Statement The Elko Area depends on active leaders with a vision for our future and respect for our past. We strive to develop leaders who are diverse, involved, educated, and who will sustain community stewardship through cooperation, volunteerism and respect for others. Vision Statement • Develop a premier and prestigious program that provides an extensive leadership training program for community minded leaders seeking to enhance and develop their leadership and business skills • EALI will provide an hands-on experience aimed at developing understanding of a broad spectrum of public-policy issues with a lasting commitment to civic involvement at the local and state levels. • Graduates will have a good working knowledge and awareness of key community issues and challenges and become leaders bringing value to the bottom line for their business or company. • At the end of the program, participants will have cultivated communications and networking skills that enable them to build strong relationships and will be prepared to play an important role in deciding priorities and strategies for local and statewide issues. Eligibility & the Selection Process • Must be at least 18 years old. • Merit based selection process. • Class will be limited to 15 participants. • Criteria will include community involvement, character, passion, desire, communication skills, training and experience. What is the Tuition? • Chamber members - $975 • Non-Chamber members - $1,175 • Includes materials, meals, & lodging • Participants must contribute $175 • Scholarships & payment plans may be available Developing future community minded leaders who work and volunteer in the Elko Area

Local History Historian Steven Fry once said, “The future’s in the past.” How can we understand our present or glimpse our future if we cannot understand our past? How can we know who we are if we don't know who we were? This module will focus on the history of Elko and Elko County including a guided walking tour of the historical building and places in Elko with focus on what has made this area what it is today. Education & the Community Few investments have more potential than child’s education. EALI will focus on the opportunities and challenges of educating our future leaders. This hands-on module will allow the participant to meet students and hear directly from local educators and natural resource administrators. Communications & the Media Understanding the impact of mass communications on individuals, communities and cultures of Elko County is a vital skill for community leaders. Experience hands on knowledge of the local press including radio, TV and print media. The latest in social media will be explored. Students will be expected to deliver a press release, learn what an interview is like, be able to represent your organization to the media and run effective meetings. Role of Local Government The role of local government is to act for the group, doing those things the group cannot do on its own: EALI participants will delve into the world of our local and county government and learn how government can work for us as leaders and citizens. We will have hands on learning with city and county officials coupled with a class assignment designed to foster better understanding of the processes and challenges faced by organizations and leaders working with our local government. Human Services & Healthcare Providing essential human services and healthcare in Elko County can be challenging. You will experience, first hand, local agencies that deliver vital services to our underprivileged citizens and meet some of our local health care providers for an interactive discussion on what it takes to provide these services to our area. Developing future community minded leaders who work and volunteer in the Elko Area
Arts & Culture The world of Arts & Culture is rather large. Understanding local culture and arts is paramount to being and becoming an astute and learned member of any community. This module will focus on the local opportunities to experience the Arts and to learn about the local Cultures that make up our community. Economy, Agriculture & Business This module will explore the Mining Industry and how it affects the area’s economic outlook. But, Elko is more than just hard rock mining – we will delve into some of our other economic strengths such as agriculture. We will learn how important and challenging it is to diversify our regional economy. Developing future community minded leaders who work and volunteer in the Elko Area
Law Enforcement & the Criminal Justice System Understanding the criminal justice system is complex – we will take you through the stages a criminal case goes through from arrest, intake, arraignment, trial and sentencing. Touring our criminal justice facilities and meeting some local and regional leaders involved in the system will be some of the highlights of this module. Ethics, Social, & Civic Responsibilities and Quality of Life Learn about the importance and value these virtues bring to your business and to the community. In this module , you will be guided by community leaders willing to share their experiences and how their lives and businesses have been impacted.
