  2. Conservative members of the General Conference Mennonite Church were instrumental in starting what post-secondary school in 1943? Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, Neb. Dismayed at the liberalism they saw in GCMC colleges, denominational members, joined by members from five other Mennonite groups, started the school, now called Grace University. The first president was C.H. Suckau, former GCMC missionary to China and pastor of First Mennonite Church in Berne, Ind.

As was customary, Manz was baptized as an infant before becoming one of the founders of Anabaptism and rebaptized on January 21, 1525, in Zurich. Eight years later he suffered his “third baptism” when he was drowned in the Limmat River in Zurich, becoming the first person martyred for his Anabaptist faith.

Two years later, Felix Manz was drowned by Zurich’s Reformed (Protestant) authorities because he was an Anabaptist.
