  1. Wood & Biomass Ashfield Direct Learning Ks4 Energy By Daniel Housley

  2. What is Biomass • Biomass is anything that was living that can now be used for fuel. • Examples of this are wood and dead plants. • It provides 14% of the worlds total energy supplies

  3. What is Biomass • Biomass is an alternative to coal and other fossil fuels. • Apart from the change of fuel, the process in which Biomass is used to create electricity is the same way. The fuel (Biomass) is burnt heat water, which creates steam. The steam then turns the turbine which generates electricity. • This picture shows it stacked and ready for use;

  4. How Biomass works Burn the fuel Heat water to make steam Steam turns a turbine Electrical power sent around the country Turbine turns generator

  5. Examples of Biomass • Wood • Plants • Animals

  6. Plants marked in green use Biomass. Those marked in red and Biomass power plants that are under construction. Power plants in the UK using Biomass

  7. Useful Web Links • British Biogen Homepage • US Department of Energy • Clean Energy Basics: About Biomass Energy Warning!Clicking these links will cause you to leave the Ashfield Direct Learning website.
