Electronic Business Sets (EBS) are telephone sets that are electronic. They are generally referred to as “EBS sets”, “EKL set” (Electronic Key Line), “P-Phones” (Proprietary Phones). Depending upon the set on should consider a backup power source so that if there is a power failure, you will still have phone service. These sets offer many enhancements to customers, including a Hold button, conferencing capabilities, buttons or keys where features are located and additional buttons where frequently dialed numbers may be stored. The only Telco Switch that supports EBS with Centrex is the DMS 100. This means there are station link Universal Service Order Code (USOC’s) that are unique for customers using EBS sets. Standard single-line telephone sets are loop-powered. This means that the set’s capabilities for making and receiving calls are controlled by the Telco’s Central Office switch. Even if the user loses commercial power, the user can still make and receive calls. • EBS sets also provide the capabilities to make and receive calls during a power outage. However, many of the special capabilities the sets provide require additional power above the loop power from the Telco’s, such as: • Displays • Speakerphones • Add-ons (M522, M622) • These capabilities are lost during a power outage • The best arrangement is for power supplies (transformers) to be located at the set. However, the power can also be centralized and rack mounted for larger installations, but set operation could be negatively affected based on distance limitations • It is also recommended that sets be installed using RJ14C jacks. These jacks have six wires. The EBS set would use the first two wires, and second two wires would remain unused, and the loop power would be provided over the last two wires. This separation eliminates the possibilities of a hum on the line. The normal RJ11C has only four wires Power requirements
Which of the following are true for an EBS when there is a power failure ? • If the customer does not have backup power source, the customer might not have phone service • Depending upon the set, the customer might still be able to make and receive calls • The ringer will work, but the lights will not Check Your knowledge

Primary Directory Number • Additional Directory Number • Multiple Directory Number Types of Directory numbers
The main telephone number that incoming calls dial to ring the set • Also referred to as PDN • Always on Key 1 of EBS set Primary Directory Number
Each Electronic Business Set may be equipped with one or more Additional Directory Number • An AND can only appear on one key of one set. It cannot appear on Key 1 • ADNs can be used as personal lines or as number given out to special clients or customers • A feature call Key Short Hunt allows calls to a PDN to hunt to one or more ADNs on the same set • An AND requires a Primary interexchange Carrier assignment and it establishes a toll guide • It does not require an End User Common Line Charge (EUCL) Additional Directory Number
EBS sets can support Multiple Directory Numbers over a single EBS Station link • They can function exactly like multiline sets or key sets by allowing a station user to answer and hold multiple calls simultaneously • DNs are assigned to keys located on each set. A DN key allows the user to select and answer an incoming call or select an extension number from which a call can be placed • Lamps associated with DN keys provide a visual indication of the status of a given line or number • Each DN can be programmed to ring to signal an incoming call, or the user might prefer only a visual indication without ringing Multiple directory number
The Local Telco Consultant negotiates these sets with the customer and generally provides the Customer Service Associate with the information to successfully enter the service order. Also it is not necessary that you memorized the information, but you should know where to find it. The EBS has unique station link USOCs. These USOCs are dependent upon the type of set it is extremely important that the Consultant provides the Customer Service Associate with the correct station link for order issuance. If the incorrect station link USOC is entered on the service order, when the customers vendor installs the set will not work. Station link information
The appropriate code sets still appear behind individual Field Identifiers (FIDS) such as Primary Interexchange Carrier (PIC) Local Primary Interexchange Carrier (LPIC) • Primary Directory Number (PDN) – EBS lines can have more than one telephone number assigned to single set. Therefore, a special directory known as a PDN is used to uniquely indentify each EBS • Most businesses using EBS service list a set’s PDN in their internal telephone directories as the user’s extension number. No two sets may have the same PDN • Key Number (KEY) – The SC must supply the key on the EBS on which the telephone number being installed will appear • Multiple Appearance Directory Number (MADN) – Electronic Business Set service allows the sharing of directory numbers among multiple sets. Primary and other Directory Numbers may be shared among sets within the same Centrex service arrangement Station Link Fids
There are several categories of standard selectable features for EBS: • Per Directory Number (DN) – Features that apply to a specific telephone number, but not a specific set • Per Key – Features that are assigned to keys on a specific • Per Key List – Option used to exclude features form the DN keys o an EBS • Per Set, Per PDN – Features that apply to a specific telephone number on a specific set Standard selectable features for ebs
These are features that apply to a specific telephone number, but not a specific set. The telephone number has to be a Primary Directory Number. Additional Directory Number, or Primary appearance of phantom MADN. Per DN
These features are assigned to keys on a specific set. These features are not telephone number-specific and can apply to any number on the set. Per Key
This category of features is assigned to a vacant key on the EBS set if it is to be key-activated; however, if it is to be access-code activated, it must be assigned to Key 1 of the EBS set. These features can work only with the PDN, or they may also apply to other ADNs or phantom MADNs appearing on the set. When this feature is assigned, a list of key assignments of all DNs to which the feature applies must be included in the switch programming. Per Key List
These features apply to a specific telephone number on a specific set. If no code access is needed, this will affect all lines on the set, even non-primary lines. If code access is needed, the non-primary number will be controlled by the set where it is primary. Per set, per dn
Centrex offers optional features for EBS sets, which allow customers to further expand their service. If an optional feature is added on subsequent activity, the station link and all features must be recapped on the service order. Some of the most common optional features for EBS set are: Optional features
Optional features are state-specific • The Uniform Call Distribution USOC per DN is M4DJA • If an optional feature is added on subsequent activity, the station link and features must recapped on the service order Check your knownledge
