One Point Perspective Drawing Beginning Draw Paint Christine Burris
Acquaint yourself with the following • Horizon line: An imaginary horizontal line, sometimes referred to as eye level, which divides your line of vision when you look straight ahead. The horizon is where the sky meets the land or sea. A Horizontal line goes from side to side like the Horizon. • Vanishing point:The point on the horizon line where the angular perspective lines of an object visually continue past its edges and eventually converge • Perspective lines:Straight lines, drawn at an angle from the edges of objects, back into perceived distant space, until they finally converge at a point (the Vanishing point) on the horizon line.
When an object's perspective lines recede into a properly placed vanishing point, your drawings appear more three-dimensional and visually correct. • Where is the Vanishing point in this picture? Where is the Horizon Line?
The location of the Horizon Line will have a dramatic effect on your drawing. • In the first picture the horizon line is located at the top of the paper. In the second it is located at the bottom.
In this picture the horizon line is near the Bottom. This picture is more about sky than land • Notice that the Horizon Line is Horizontal or from side to side.
When the horizon line is low, you will see more of the bottom of objects as well
In this picture the horizon line is near the Top. This picture is more about Land than Sky
Vertical Lines go from top to bottom • The Vertical Lines in this picture are in Yellow. • The fence posts and light poles are vertical. Notice that they diminish as they near the vanishing point.
When the horizon line is High, you will see more of the top of objects as well • The top and bottom of the rectangles are Horizontal. • The edges of the rectangles are vertical. • The sides and tops of the boxes recede on Perspective lines
These pictures have the horizon line and the vanishing point in the middle.
When your Horizon line is in the middle, you will see both the top and bottom of objects.
Your assignment is: • Create a drawing with 10 Buildings • Use a consistent one point perspective. • Add windows and doors to the buildings • Add sidewalks and streets. • Complete your drawing with either telephone poles or street lights receding to the vanishing point.
