Icing • Rule 10.5 (a) • For the purposes of this rule, the centre red line divides the ice into halves. • If a player of a team equal or superior in numerical strength to the opposing team shoots, bats or deflects the puck from her own half of the ice, beyond the goal line of the opposing team, play shall be stopped • If the puck enters the opposing net, the goal is allowed unless batted with the hand
Icing • Any contact with the puck after it crosses the centre red line nullifies the icing • Icing is waved-off if the puck is playable by a player from the non-offending team (excluding the goaltender), but that player chooses not to play the puck • No icing if the offending team is shorthanded, must be equal or greater strength than opponents • Icing is complete the instant the puck completely crosses the goal line

Icing • Back Official indicates a potential icing by raising his/her back arm and verbally communicating with partner “Ice”. Back official continues skating up to their partner’s blue line. • Front Official pursues the puck down the ice. At the top of the face-off circle, shoulder check and confirm the icing call. When puck crosses goal line, blow the whistle. DO NOT raise your arm to indicate the completed icing.
Icing • Back official then points to face-off location and monitors players and player changes. • In 2-official system, the back official will also run the line change procedure. • Front official skates to the appropriate face-off spot to conduct the next face-off.
Icing • In 3-official system: • The Referee, where possible, shall get behind as many players as possible and follow them up the ice. • This allows the Referee to keep everyone in front of him and allow him to witness possible infractions. • The linesman taking the faceoff will then relieve their partner at the blue line.
Icing • Tips • Use verbal communication to enhance signals and communicate with your partner • “ICE” “OK” • Signal “washout” immediately if no icing, or as soon as nullified.
