The Principle of Vindication • Used his dreams to be important (Gen. 37:9) • Thrown into prison, accused of rape (Gen. 39:19-20) • Used his gift to make a way for himself (Gen. 40:14-15 • “Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God.” Gen. 41:38
Principle of Vindication • Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you. 1 Peter 5:6 • Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? (Gen. 50:19)
Learning to Love • Why the cup in Ben’s bag? • Perhaps Joseph wanted to test them—if they could “re-sin” just like they did before. No one would know, they would be off the hook, the cup was in his bag… • Joseph was looking to see if they had truly repented (summary R.T. Kendall)
Learning to Love: Total Forgiveness • When we protect the one we have forgiven • Wants to make a person feel at ease • Will not even all the person to feel bad or angry with himself • Make it easy for that person to forgive himself and do it in such a way that it is obvious we really do forgive • We make it easy for the person to forgive himself.
Seeing how much God loves us • God gave him dreams • After being sold into slavery: “The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man..” • After he was thrown in prison: “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor…” • God brings him to a place of authority
Seeing how much God loves us • “God sent me before you to preserve your life.” • Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant it for evil against me, but God meant it for good…”
JUDAH • Fourth son of Leah (Praise) • Married a Canaanite girl • Did not keep his word to his daughter-in-law by protected his only son • Pledged his own life for the sake of Benjamin • Judah leads the men back to Joseph after the cup incident • Judah intercedes on behalf of Benjamin • Judah is sent ahead of his family to care for things • Judah’s blessing through to Christ
