We Were First Among the Rest • One of the very first country to organize a national council for sustainable development – the PCSD • Unique composition – a multi-sectoral body representing the 3 pillars of society -government -business -civil society the Civil Society Counterpart Council for Sustainable Development (CSCCSD) - over 50 members in the country

  5. Where are we Coming From PCSD Sub-Committee on Information and Education -tasks to popularize and localize the PA21 -production of IEC materials -various activities In support to education initiatives for sustainable development

  6. Why Environmental Awareness and Education Act Where is sustainable development? -cannot be felt -nor seen In the immediate Needs to have a face Environment is where people can easily relate Hence, the EE for SD

What Do We Do • Community organizing • Institution building • Community-based interventions/facilitation etc. • Conduct of trainings, workshops, forusm, etc. • Subscribing to a proven process of SD • Policy advocacy • Formulation of SD framework • Role playing • Campaigns • Promotion of conservation, protection and sustainable management of natural resources

What Do We Do • Development and production of IEC materials and activities • Alternative education • Renewable energy • Networking and linkagin • Profiling • Participation in local governance • Electoral and political reform initiatives • Transparency and accountability in governance • And maybe more……

  9. What Else Has to be Done • Determine levels of awareness • Rate our EE for SD • Let’s do an SMCR check • Accessibility • How far can we reach? • Are we equipped? • Resource mobilization • Use and build on our experts and icons

  10. What to Offer • Multi-stakeholder partnership • Exchange of ideas and information • Actual experiences • Indigenous knowledge and practices • Linkages • Sustainable capabilities and abilities • Community-based lifestyles • Emersions • Research and development

  12. Moving Forward – Together? • No competition, no duplication but cooperation • Reactivating PCSD • Holistic approach to SD only if we KNOW!!!
