History of Computers • We use computers in our everyday lives. What would we do without computers? • We use computers to help find information we need for school, we get music and videos from computers, play games on computers and more.
Hardware • The Case – A box that protects the computer from damage. • The Motherboard - The largest circuit board in the computer. Its like the main part of interal parts. • Internal Hard Drive- It stores your operating systems and many other files. • Processer – Is the main processer acts as the brain of your computer. • RAM - Short term Memory. • Expansion Slots and Cards – are ports in your mother board to have any unused Expansion Slots.
Connections • Power Adapter In- This is where the power cord connects to the computer. • DVI Video Output- A digital video connection that sends the signal to your monitor. It replaced the older analog VGA connection. • Serial Port - Use to connect the computer to just about every peripheral device on the market. • USB 2.0 Ports – allows you to ‘daisy chain’ several USB devices together, then connect them to your computer through just one connection. • Parallel Printer Port - Will transfer data faster than the serial port. • Ethernet/network Jack- This is what high speed modems (DSL & Cable) use when then connect to your computer. • Line In Port- This is where you plug your computer’s microphone in to record your voice. • Speaker Out Port – Your computer’s speaker and/or headphones plug into this port.
Input Devices • Mouse – is a device used for pointing, selecting, and highlighting things visible on your monitor. • Keyboards - Allow you to jump to such functions as controlling video , audio, printing scanning, or going online. • Scanners – Allow you to convert anything it can scan to a digital image , which it then stores inside your computer. • Digital Cameras - You can take pictures then use the digital camera to put on your computer. • Graphics tablets - Is a great tool for those web designers and artists who rely upon free-hand drawing to make graphics.
Output Devices • Speakers – are use to hear something louder like for music. - Printer- use to print out paper you need for school.
Drives & Media • CD/DVD Drive- use to watch videos and listen to music. • UD Drive – Its simply slides into one of your computer’s USB ports, allows you to save to it. • External Hard Drive – Its stores several Terabites of data.
