The Real Compromise of 1850 • CA wants in as a Free State • Yes…16-15!! • TX and NM fighting over state borders • NM gets land • TX has $10 million debt • Gets debt taken by the Fed Gov • Whigs want DC to abolish slavery completely • Just the trade of slaves, but slavery still exists in the capital • South wants tougher Fugitive Slave Act… • Yes!!!!
