Features of Classical Art • 500 B.C.E to 500 C.E. • Greek and Roman culture & history • Purpose: to show the importance of people/ leaders, gods/goddesses
Features of Medieval Art • 500 C.E. to 1400 C.E. • Rise of feudalism and the controlling power of the Catholic Church in peoples’ lives. • Purpose: to teach religion to people who could not read or write.
Features of Renaissance Art • 1400 C.E. to 1650 C.E. • Rebirth of interest in classics, rediscover writings/artwork of the Greeks/Romans • Purpose: to show the importance of people and nature, as well as religion.
