What is an orchestra? An orchestra is a type of musical ensemble. Wait a minute. What’s an ensemble??? An ensemble is a group of musicians who play music together.
Okay, ensembles, got it. In an orchestra, there are specific instruments and groups of instruments that play together. Instruments are grouped into instrument families. Instruments in the same family are similar to each other in certain ways.

The Conductor Did you see the person waving their arms in the air in front of the musicians? That person is called a conductor. The conductor tells the orchestra how fast or slow to play, how loud or soft, and lots of other things, without using his voice. The conductors communicates everything with their hands!
