Introduction In 1996, The University of New Mexico piloted a new process to assist with academic advisement. UNM invested in a Degree Audit Reporting System(DARS)that was developed at Miami University of Ohio. Based on this software, UNM developed ePROGRESS – as of February 2010 the degree audit team upgraded this system to the Interactive Audit that is now – LOBO Trax
What is LOBO Trax? • LOBO Trax is the degree audit tool used for verification of:University requirements: 128 hours, UNM Residency, 2.0 gpa, Engl 102, & the UNM core • College Requirements: any college requirements, upper level hours, entry requirements, etc... • Degree Requirements: Degree program, minor, and any 2nd major/minor requirements. The report provides a concise report that is used for advising as well as for final certification • The LOBO Traxreport provides students with current and accurate transfer and UNM course information to enhance their degree program planning. Students are able to view their LOBO Traxreports at anytime through LoboWeb
Why use LOBO Trax LOBO Traxdoes not just list courses a student has taken, but actually applies the University rules to a degree program. These include, but are not limited to: • AOA (also offered as) courses • Department restrictions; i.e. Math, Chemistry, Biology, etc. • Repeatable hours • Duplicate courses and/or credit
What LOBO Trax is NOT • LOBO TraxisNOTa transcript. It is an internal document that is not intended to report student achievement to outside parties. • LOBO Traxdoes NOTreplace written information; such as the University catalog, degree program fliers, and other handouts that explain programs and their procedures. • LOBOTrax does NOTreplace advising – the goal is to help make advising a more meaningful interaction between advisor and student.
How LOBO Trax is used in the Registrar’s Office • Thedegree auditteam is the main contact for Advisors, Colleges, Departments, & students when they have questions or concerns regarding the progress report. • Thedegree auditteam updates all degree programs, and is responsible for updating the different tables inDARwin/Banner that are used by the University. • Currently, thedegree auditteam processes all academic exceptions for all colleges, this includes exceptions to the UNM Core, College Requirements, and Degree Programs. • LOBO Trax is usedfor graduation, by checking that pending graduates have met all of the University requirements.
How LOBO Traxhelps students LOBO Trax Reports: • Lists the student’s current degree program. • Identifies completed requirements & those that are still outstanding. • Shows where transfer work will apply toward the degree requirements. • Takes the “guesswork” out of selecting courses for future registration.
Through LoboWeb: • Run (submit) LOBO Trax reports • Run (submit) LOBO Traxreports of “What-If” Degree programs • Can print LOBO Trax report • Advisors have the ability to submit academic exceptions electronically
