Rules • Be respectful • To your teacher, to each other, to our classroom, to everyone’s stuff • Be prepared • Class materials, homework, ATTITUDE • Be on time • Start work when the bell rings (or before!), hand in work on time • Be on task • Do what you’re supposed to do when you’re supposed to do it.
Why? • To live and learn together • To make everyone feel loved • To learn chemistry and English for success in IB classes!!
Materials • Zumdahl and Zumdahl book (mostly for homework) • Class notebook, homework notebook • Periodic table • Calculator • Pens, pencils, eraser • GOOD ATTITUDE!
Anti-materials • Cell phones, iPods, PSPs, and all other evil electronics – ONE warning, then gone ‘til Friday (or longer). • Translators – ok • NOT allowed on quizzes and tests • No games, no cell phone dictionaries
No food in class • Drinks are OK • Trash goes in the trash can
Catalyst • Copy the date, objective, agenda, Catalyst question AND write down the answer • As SOON AS THE BELL RINGS! • EVERY DAY! • This gives me time to take attendance of YOU, check YOUR homework, hand back YOUR papers, and organize YOUR lesson
Homework • Due the next class unless otherwise noted. • Please put the date it is DUE, and the assignment (page, problem numbers) at the top of the page. • Ex: Due February 29; p.123 #1-18 • This makes my life easier.
Clean Slate • Today is the first day of the rest of your life. • Work hard starting TODAY!!
Extra help • Mon.-Thurs. at 14:00 and 17:05 • In the evening or any other time by appointment – just ask!! • Extra help = success!

Avogadro’s Law • For a gas at a constant temperature and pressure, the volume is directly proportional to the number of moles of a gas (doesn’t matter what kind of gas).
