Deploy micro credential / badging capability to make skills and certifications that learners earn in our programs more discoverable by employers, to motivate learners and provide them additional value in the job search process. • In deploying these credentials, SUNY Oswego’s standard of academic quality will be maintained by ensuring that the credentials consistently represent skill achievement from learners. The Proposal
Small educational program that allows students to gain relevant skills that are needed in today’s workforce • Students are able to • Earn stackable skills that differentiate them academically and professionally • Personalize their learning through credit and non-credit bearing opportunities to meet unique goals • Gain skills to keep them at the leading edge of a discipline throughout their career • Display badges that contain achievements and competencies to employers, colleagues and others What Are They?
Skill Competencies are needed for emerging duties • Smaller chunks than Traditional Degree • Stackable with degrees • Motivate students • Support academic/industry partnerships • Clearly represent skills & competencies • Supplement degree programs with aligned skill sets • Ladder from stand-alone credential to degree program • Professional Development for new skills Why Are They Important?
Non-Credit or Credit, Undergraduate or Graduate level • Licensure, Certificates, Badges, MOOC • Be specifically recognized by certain industries • Highlight competencies earned within a credit program • Be an introduction / entry point to a degree program • Be a stand-alone credential &/or aligned with a degree • Build to larger credentials and/or degrees • Designed to meet market needs & industry standards Characteristics

Provide meaningful, high quality learning experiences with validated student learning outcomes developed through governance process currently • May be earned in any field of study and may be interdisciplinary, resulting in a mini-concentration • Intentionally designed as smaller and more flexible @ SUNY Oswego
Academic Micro Credentials (Credit based) • Require governance process for new Minors • Will not exceed 17 credits • Require a minimum GPA of 2.0 of all credit courses • Receive a notation on their academic transcript & digital badge • Badges (Non Credit based) • Require evidence of validated learning outcomes • Receive a digital badge & entry on a co-curricular transcript* Governance
